Mission Statement
The Midwest Chapter of REFORMA will actively promote:
better communication between librarians and the Spanish-speaking patron
serving as a gatekeeper of information to aid librarians in the Midwest region of the
United States (Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin) in serving the Spanish speaking patron in
the following areas:
> the development of library collections to include Spanish language, ESL
and Latino oriented materials
> the development of library services and programs that meet the needs of the
Midwest's Spanish-speaking patrons
> the development of affiliations with other groups that serve the Spanish-speaking
community in the Midwest
> act as a warehouse of information, via a website, that contains the following
materials to aid libraries in the Midwest to bridge the language gap with their
Spanish-speaking patron:
~ by providing examples of translated library policies, publicity flyers,
and forms in Spanish
~ and with links to organizations that helps libraries better serve their
Spanish-speaking patrons unique needs in the Midwest
the networking of librarians who serve the Spanish-speaking patron in the Midwest
the recruitment of more bilingual, bicultural professionals and support staff in our
libraries |
